Do the Sentinel XR Glasses require charging or have a built-in battery?Updated a month ago
Last Updated: July 22, 2025
Nope — no charging required and the Sentinel XR Glasses do NOT have an internal battery. The Sentinel XR Glasses are powered entirely via USB-C from your connected device. This approach minimizes weight, ensures ultra-low latency performance, and ultimately improve user experience ideal for gaming and media.
How does power delivery work?
The Sentinel XR Glasses use a magnetic pogo-pin USB-C cable (included in the box) that delivers both power and video from your device. There’s no need to charge the glasses separately or worry about internal battery degradation over time.
- No built-in battery
- No charging cables needed
💡 As long as your connected device has sufficient power and supports USB-C Display Out, the Sentinel XR Glasses will function instantly and continuously.
Why no internal battery?
Removing the internal battery was a deliberate design choice to:
- Keep the weight under 90g for extended wear
- Minimize overheating issues
- Minimize latency and allows 1ms response time
Use Case Examples
Use Case | Power Source |
---|---|
Nintendo Switch 2 (via OmniBase) | OmniBase battery + HDMI passthrough |
Steam Deck / ROG Ally | USB-C directly from the device |
iPhone 15/16 | USB-C directly from the phone |
PS5 / Xbox | HDMI adapter → USB-C with power passthrough |
PC / Mac | USB-C or Thunderbolt port |
🔋 For extra-long sessions, especially when using battery-limited handhelds, consider pairing with the OmniBase or a portable power bank with passthrough charging.
